This historic recognition came in the wake of the Constitutional Court judgment delivered on 30 May 2023, which declared the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act 3 of 2019 invalid, with a 24-month suspension period allowing Parliament to re-enact legislation consistent with South Africa’s Constitution.

Our Current Running Initiatives
Journey of Transformation: Amatshitshi
In South Africa Amatshitshi refers to a term for young, unmarried young girls who are being honoured for their grace, dignity, and strength in traditional ceremonies. The word signifies a young female who is not yet in love or have had an intimate relationship. The traditional Councils normal will held an annual event to encourage them to continue maintaining their dignity, and a certificate will be issued to them in honour and respect they had maintained. These profound rites of passage impart cultural knowledge, ethics, and community responsibilities, preparing Amatshitshi for their adult roles. Surrounded by the majesty of nature, participants engage in teachings and ceremonies that forge strong identities and deep connections to their heritage, ensuring the continuity of ancestral wisdom and cultural pride.
Journey to Manhood: Mountain Initiation Schools for Boys
For the AmaMthi traditional council, mountain initiation schools for young boys are sacred spaces where ancient traditions guide the profound transition from boyhood to manhood. Through rigorous rites of passage, these schools impart essential cultural knowledge, values, and discipline, preparing initiates for their adult roles and responsibilities within the community. Teachings emphasize leadership, respect for elders, and the wisdom of ancestors, ensuring that each boy learns his role as a man.
